Futility is a contextual menu and application for:
- Moving the data fork of a file into the resource fork, then deleting the data fork.
- Listing all resources in a resource fork by ID, type and name.
- Deleting a file's data fork.
- Deleting a file's resource fork.
- Deleting a file, folder or folder contents (i.e. without moving to the trash.)
- Displaying a file's fork sizes.
Warning: It is recommended that you use this program with extreme caution! Futility can NOT undo these operations.
Note: control clicking on a window background or on the desktop is the same as control clicking in the corresponding folder icon.
System requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 and above
To Install the Application: Place the Futility application into your Applications folder.
To Install the Contextual Menu: Place the plugin into your "Contextual Menu Items" folder located in your Library folder, creating it if necessary:
/Library/Contextual Menu Items/FutilityCM.plugin
Then logout and back into your account to load the plugin.
To Use the Contextual Menu: Control-click on a file or folder in the Finder and select a menu item from the contextual menu.
To Use the Application: Drop files onto the application icon in the Finder. Use the "Preferences" window to select the operation to perform:
